Venezuela’s Prosecutor’s Office Responds to President Petro: “Take Care of Colombia’s Problems”

Regarding the release of prisoners in Venezuela, the prosecutor stressed that since the end of last year, more than 1,500 people detained during the post-election riots on July 28 have been released.

The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Venezuela issued a strong message to Colombian President Gustavo Petro in response to his recent comments on the situation of detainees in the country.
In an open letter, the prosecutor urged Petro to focus on the “serious problems” facing Colombia, while assuring that Venezuela is addressing its own challenges.
The prosecutor expressed his surprise at the statements made by the Colombian president on social media, where he referred to arrests in Venezuela.
He recalled that Venezuela has been the target of threats from narcoparamilitary groups operating from Colombian territory, noting that these groups have been responsible for violent and destabilizing acts in the country. “Venezuela has been and continues to be threatened from Colombian territory by criminal narco-paramilitary groups,” he said.
The message also referred to the alleged lack of action by the Colombian authorities regarding the entry of mercenaries into Venezuelan territory, mentioning incidents that occurred before the inauguration of President Nicolás Maduro. “Do the security agencies in your country not know who is entering and who is leaving their territory?” the prosecutor questioned.
Regarding the release of prisoners in Venezuela, the prosecutor stressed that since the end of last year, more than 1,500 people detained during the post-election riots on July 28 have been released. He defended the actions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and reiterated that cases are being reviewed to grant legal benefits where appropriate.
The message concluded with a call for peace and unity between the peoples of Venezuela and Colombia, emphasizing that both countries share historical ties since independence.
“We want a peaceful Colombia, just as we have achieved in Venezuela,” concluded the prosecutor, stressing that the two countries should maintain peaceful relations.
